Laguna College of Art and Design will present ‘The Art of Story’ - a rare exhibition showcasing storyboard works by Tom Owens, Sean Bishop and Kelly Hobby-Bishop. The talents of all three artists span both television and feature film productions with credits including ‘Shrek’, ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, ‘Sophia the First’, ‘Kung Fu Panda’, ‘House of Mouse’, and ‘The Tigger Movie’. The exhibition is curated by David Kuhn, chair of LCAD’s BFA program in Animation.
The exhibition is a great opportunity for the public to get a first hand taste of how much time, effort, and skill go into storyboard production. Animation story artists are responsible for bringing an idea into existence by visually expressing emotion, story beats, and humour, and require a strong understanding of cinematography, acting and editing to help shape what audiences will see on the screen. Storyboards lay the groundwork for every shot in a film before it is animated, and often contribute to the writing of the story depending on the project.
The opening reception with the artists will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday, May 5th. The exhibition will run through May 27, 2016. Exhibit hours are 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday through Sunda
Sunday at the LCAD Gallery, 374 Ocean Avenue, Laguna Beach, CA 92651. Admission is free. For more information, please visit LCAD’s website.
