Following in the animal theme of the soon-to-be-released ‘The Secret Life of Pets’, we now get a taste of Illumination’s next film, ‘Sing’, out on December 21, 2016.
Sing follows the story of A koala named Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) hires a black sheep named Eddie (John C. Reilly) who is also his best friend to help him run his business of theater. The film will be directed by Garth Jennings (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy} and boasts an impressive voice cast which, according to producers, includes the following:
Five lead contestants emerge: A mouse (Seth MacFarlane) who croons as smoothly as he cons, a timid teenage elephant (Tori Kelly) with an enormous case of stage fright, an overtaxed mother (Reese Witherspoon) run ragged tending a litter of 25 piglets, a young gangster gorilla (Taron Egerton) looking to break free of his family’s felonies, and a punk-rock porcupine (Scarlett Johansson) struggling to shed her arrogant boyfriend and go solo. Each animal arrives under Buster’s marquee believing that this is their shot to change the course of their life.
Illumination has demonstrated its skill in creating giant franchises after the success of ‘Despicable Me’ and ‘Minions’, but the true test will come this year with their two original films. If their past success and so far released trailers are anything to go by, then we can expect great things from this quickly rising company.
