Two of Cartoon Network’s original hit series, ‘Steven Universe’ and ‘Uncle Grandpa’, have been picked up for a fifth season, and will be returning to screens next season along with ‘Adventure Time’, ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’, ‘Clarence’, and ‘Regular Show’. The success of both series is a great reflection of the industry’s new talent with both originating from CN Studios‘ award-winning, artist-driven Shorts Program.
‘Steven Universe’, created by Emmy and Annie-nominated ‘Adventure Time’ artist Rebecca Sugar, has gained wide praise from critics and viewers alike for its exploration of culturally poignant themes, deeply realised characters, stunning visuals, and original music. The series follows three magical beings, known as Crystal Gems, who are the self-appointed guardians of the universe, and their half-human, half-Gem “little brother” Steven as he learns more of his magical powers and place in the universe. The third season continues with the “Summer of Steven,” featuring new episode premieres through June and August.
Emmy award-winning ‘Uncle Grandpa’, created by Peter Browngardt, tells the story of the kooky title character, a magical uncle and grandpa to everyone, as he travels around the world in an RV on a mission to help people in any way they may need it. The series is a spin-off of Browngardt’s earlier show ‘Secret Mountain Fort Awesome’ which was in turn a spin-off of a short named ‘The Cartoonstitute’. The show is a surreal action-adventure comedy packed with visual gags and catchphrases. Starting this April, everyone’s favorite uncle and grandpa will begin hosting Cartoon Network’s “Good Mornings with Uncle Grandpa” Saturday block.
