Technicolor, DHX Media and A Stark Production have announced that their underwater adventure series, ‘The Deep’, will be making a splash onto Netflix in the U.S. this Wednesday, June 1. Technicolor holds the underlying rights to the series as well as overseeing the series roll-out and brand management.
Co-produced by A Stark in Australia (scripts, design, music) and DHX Media (animation, voices, post), which also handles distribution, ‘The Deep’ follows the Nekton’s, a family of daring underwater explorers who live aboard a state-of-the-art submarine, The Aronnax, and explore uncharted areas of the earth’s oceans to unravel the mysteries of the deep.
The show is adapted from the Aurealis Award-winning graphic novel series created by writer Tom Taylor, illustrated by James Brouwer and published by Gestalt Comics. Taylor and Brouwer serve as co-creators of the animated iteration, with Taylor on as lead writer and Brouwer taking the post of art director.In addition to Netflix, The Deep‘s broadcast partners include CBBC (U.K.), The Seven Network (Australia), Super RTL (Germany) and Family CHRGD (Canada).
